Cartell.ie Rally of the Lakes meets Michael Fassbender

On Saturday the 30th of March the Cartell.ie International Rally of the Lakes got a huge boost when Michael Fassbender, event ambassador for this year’s rally came to visit. Michael had the opportunity to sample some of the different types of rallycars in a bid to decide which car he would like to drive throughout the event. A huge thank you is required to the KDMC for providing a range of cars including a Porsche 911, the iconic Ford Escort mk2 and a Ford Puma S1600.

Anniversaries All Around

As we know, this year is doubly special as it is not only the 40th Anniversary of the Rally of the Lakes but Cartell.ie’s 10-year anniversary as title sponsor.
In a bid to insure this is a memorable event for all, the classic Rally of the Lakes stages will be run with a twist… Three of the Saturday’s classic stages, Ardgroom, Cod’s Head and the Healy Pass, will be run in reverse.

New Additions

Also, a new addition for the 40th Anniversary will be the Lakes RallyFest, which introduces a pre-1990 section. This new and innovative section will bring a fresh dimension to the event. Clerk of the Course Dermot Healy explains the thinking behind Lakes RallyFest Ireland.

‘The rallying years leading up to 1990 included the “golden age” of rallying. Many of these iconic rally cars are alive and well, but remain out of view from the Irish rally fan.’
