Green: The news gets worse!

Last year Used Car History Check expert Cartell published statistics showing green coloured vehicles were far more likely to be involved in a serious incident on the roads than any other car. You’ll recall we speculated about the reasons for this at the time including the fact a vehicle painted this colour appears to blend into the hedgerows and becomes more difficult to spot – particularly using peripheral vision. And if you think about it, it makes sense, the army use green camouflage all the time. Well, the latest statistics concerning vehicle colours comes from the UK where valuation experts CAP have revealed that green coloured vehicles are among the worst at retaining their value – in fact only turquoise and maroon fair worse in the market (…and when’s the last time you saw a turquoise-coloured vehicle, eh?)

Surprisingly for Irish drivers, as Black and Silver are so popular in Ireland, both those colours are firmly in the middle of the valuations-list. This means, according to CAP, these colours don’t retain their value as well as the colours above them on the list – despite their continuing popularity with new-car buyers. (remember the list is based on UK statistics). The colour at the top of the list is white. This colour retains its value best of all.

The complete list is as follows:

  1. White
  2. Indigo
  3. Purple
  4. Pink
  5. Yellow
  6. Grey
  7. Brown
  8. Black
  9. Silver
  10. Red
  11. Orange
  12. Blue
  13. Gold
  14. Green
  15. Turquoise
  16. Maroon
